Famous Friday

It's been a long time since so many famous people where all in Hartford and not all on the same speaking tour. But so it is this Friday when The D-O-double-G himself hits the Webster Theater and former Insomniac host Dave Attell makes a stop at the Funny Bone Comedy Club.

First off, I really hope Snoop shows up. Let's be honest here. Most rap stars do not have the best reputations when it comes to making all the stops on their tours, especially in smaller markets where the show may or may not be sold out. Let's not forget it wasn't long ago that The Wu Tang Clan was something like three hours late to a show at Toad's Place and then later in the year blew off a show at the Webster. If I had fingers I'd keep them crossed for the folks who bought tickets for that show.

As for Dave Attell I loved him on Insomniac...which is probably the last thing he wants to hear from anyone being that show went off the air over 5 years ago (5 years?!?). So a word to the wise, if you get the chance to meet the man please don't even mention Insomniac, o.k. It's probably for the best. We are hearing good things though about his current stand-up routine and the two night stop (Friday & Saturday) give you two shots at seeing it.

But, for my money Friday night is all about Cafe Nine in New Haven. Living Blues legend T-Model Ford will be rocking the house with local Blues staple Rocky Lawrence. For the cheap(er) price tag, the history and the music if Chet had a choice this is where we would be hanging out. Plus at this show you have a better chance of a) not getting a contact high or b) not getting picked on simply because you sat too close to the stage.

Finally, I saw a report today that some Whitney Houston fans are pissed because at a recent concert she couldn't hit half the notes. Well, what can I say kids. Let this be a lesson to you that crack is whack.

Until next time friends,
Chet

The MC on The CT

So I'm sure anyone who has watched The CT (or read the Hartford Advocate) over the last couple weeks has seen promos/ads for The MC on The CT. So what is it exactly? Well, you've already bared witness to our Seen On The Scene promos (oh...you haven't...then you obviously haven't been watching. You're fired.) well now picture The CT showing up at events, or just general cool places and now you've got a host or two walking you through what you are missing. But see, it's not just going to be rolling up to bars or block parties. Although there will be bars and block parties... But, we've got all sorts of crazy places planned for our hosts to take you, the viewer, on tours. Where, you may ask? I'll give you a hint...ever wonder how hot dogs are made?

Last weekend we held our first preliminary tryout round at The Shadow Room in Middletown during a party called Shag Frenzy (more on those cats later). We had some truly exceptional people come down and give us their best screen test. We're greedy though and we want more. So next Thursday, March 4th we are hosting our second preliminary tryout at Black Bear Saloon in Hartford from 6-9 pm. Can't make it next Thursday? It's all good. Throughout March we will have at least three more of these prelim rounds and then The CT staff will narrow it down to a handful of finalists. Those finalists will then have their "screen test" posted on our website where YOU will get to vote for The MC on The CT (see the only true democracy left in the world is the interweb folks...we're just doing our part). So you got that? Good.

So just some quick entertainment thoughts before I go:

*So Lindsay Vonn and Julia Mancuso aren't BFFs anymore. (Wah!!! There's someone else on my ski team who's pretty too!! Wah!!!) Does anyone really care?
*Dakota Fanning showed up dressed a little grungy. She's 16. What do you expect? Does anyone really care?
*The Octomom showed up on The View and Barbara Walters was "baffled" by her erratic behavior. She's known as THE OCTOMOM! For Christmas' sake it sounds like a comic book villian! What did you expect?!? And, yes...does anyone really care?

There. You just got your TMZ fix. Now, stop caring about this whatnot and go watch something educational...or...you know...Gossip Girl...

Next time: Why this coming Friday night might be the best Friday of the year (at least so far...)

Love
Chet

Freezin' For A Reason

Sorry, short post tonight. I'm still tyring to wrap my head around LOST. Yeah, yeah, I know, different network...so shoot me. Besides, let's be honest, if LOST were on the CW network they'd just crap it up by adding either pretty vampires or Shannon Doherty. (I kid, I kid! I love those blood suckers on 90210.)

Seriously though I wanted to let you all know about a truly awesome event The CT attended this past Saturday at Crystal Lake in Middletown, CT. Every year the CT chapter of The Special Olympics hosts a series of Penguin Plunges all over the state to help raise money and awareness. Now, if you've never been to one of these, you need to check it out. It's bassically an hour or so of pure masochism as people of all ages throw themselves into a frozen lake and most of them are in some sort of costume. Now I ask you, is there anything better than people making asses of themselves for a good cause? The answer is no. So please visit our friends at www.soct.org for more details on the great work that they do, as well as a lsting of upcoming plunges. They've been doing the plunge in Middletown for 10 years now! That's a lot of numb body parts! To see photos of this past weekend's plunge you can click here for the full gallery. Plus keep your eyes peeled for possibly the best Seen On The Scene promo we have run thus far. (I'll give you a hint: Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture is involved...)

Coming soon - more info on our next round of tryouts for The MC on The CT. Plus why Chet thinks Angelina Jolie isn't allowed to have a 'mom' haircut...

Love,
Chet

Aloha Means Hello and Goodbye

And so it is, 'Hello' to The CT and a hearty 'goodbye' to the old WTXX as you knew it. I could sit here for hours and bore the living crap out of you all with marketing speak and reasons why the new version of this TV station will be miles above and beyond the old version but I'm a 'seeing is believing' type of guy so you will all have to take my word: see it and believe it.

The changes to the station will be gradual, eventually drastic, but we've already done some pretty cool stuff. My favorite so far, hands down, is our "Seen On The Scene" segments we do. So, for those who haven't seen them yet, they are basically promotional spots that air all throughout the day highlighting cool places/events we go to. There have been some cool ones so far too - The Mohegan Sun Winefest, Liquid Lounge @ The CT Science Center, and a damn pool party in the middle of the coldest week of the Winter just to name a few. If you get a chance check out the Photos and Videos of some of the events we've had the privilege of covering so far. (There is one photo gallery in particular that I'm fond of, but I'll let you take a guess at which one it is...) Also a hearty thanks to all the venues and sponsors that have hosted us thus far. You guys have been awesome and we appreciate the support. For those venues and sponsors who haven't hosted us yet...what the hell are you waiting for?

Seriously though, if you live in Connecticut it's because of one of two reasons: 1) You love it here or 2) you grew up here and are too scared to leave. I'd like to think that you are all part of the first group and that's who this blog is for. (For the second group, my advice would be to go travel the world now before you get cold feet again. Then when you come back, realize how awesome CT actually is and join the first group of people. We'll wait here for you. Go on, shoo.) So for those of us who love CT keep your eyes on this blog because I'll have all the info you need on the events coming up worth attending, reasons why you should have attended the last event we were at and enough entertainment info to make you avoid having to watch TMZ ever, ever again. (You're welcome!)

So, my party people, are you ready to Get Around with Chet? I hope so because it's going to be one helluva ride and I'd hate for you to miss out...

Oh, and one last shameless plug before I go. If you haven't already, go find us and friend us on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks!

Chet
