I've got some fun things to talk about after this past weekend. Wouldn't want you to miss it...

Chet

Liquid Lounge @ The CT Science Center

One of our favorite recurring events is the CT Science Center's Liquid Lounge. Never been? O.k., picture this: three stories, filled with everything awesome you would expect out of a first rate science museum then add three bars, DJs, live music, and about 1500 beautiful guests and you get Liquid Lounge. It's truly a recipe for one amazing time to be had. So for the third time this year (and last until November apparently) we headed downtown to party and get our learnin' on.

Here's some pictures for you:

I know it looks like someone is goosing the guy on the left but I swear that wasn't the case.

The guy on the left was real eager to have my picture taken with him and the DJ...not so much the DJ. I fear we may have interrupted his 'flow'...whoops!

These folks were really nice and really eager to take a picture with me. They also kept talking about the 'munchies'. I'm totally expecting to see them at the Phish concert later this week...

There must be something about alcohol + science that get the ladies frisky. There were an awful lot of beautiful women trying to lay one on ol' Chet here. Don't believe me? Check out the next batch of photos. (Let me preface what you are about to see with...Who's Your Daddy!?!)

I swear I'm not trying to look down her shirt...just a bad camera angle...I swear...

My favorite part of this photo is not the kiss from a pretty girl...no, no, it's the creepy pimp-like look her male companion is giving the camera. I mean, come on, it's a pirate surrounded by three gorgeous women. It speaks for itself really...

Ah, Liquid Lounge, your awesomeness know no bounds. Can't wait for the next one. Thanks again to the CT Science Center for having us out. Personally I never saw the reason why people would go so nuts for this band that they would actually riot in the streets, especially being no other market in the U.S. of A. ever had riots for/after Dave Matthews that I'm aware of but, the youth of CT and the surrounding drivable distances love them some DMB.

I had a chance to experience my first actual CT right of passage a couple weeks ago when I attended the DMB Tailgate (that's right, it's such a big deal that it gets capitalized). Apparently about 90% of the people we met either a) didn't have tickets and were there to just get drunk or b) had tickets but won't remember the show anyway because they were so drunk. We did meet some pretty cool people though (and not all of them were drunk). Here's some photos we took of me and some DMB fans:

I was very thankful I found this guy because for a red hot second I lost my friends. He was very tall and very helpful. (Do you have any idea how frightening it is to be a disembodied head in a large crowd of strangers!)

I don't remember playing baseball at all, but the girl on the right kept telling me I was "safe". Who am I to argue with pretty girls.

I loved hanging out with these guys in that big comfy chair. It was very relaxing even with all the craziness going on around us...then I noticed the bottle to the left looked like it was someones pee bottle so I politely excused myself...

That's right, we actually found a group of cats hanging out in an old VW bus. They invited me to go camping with them after the show but said something about a 'border run' and got really nervous...so I again politely excused myself...

The guy on the left is one of our MC/Street team people. His name is Dragan. Do you like his yellow sweater? Despite the fact that it was 100 degrees out he wore a bright yellow sweater. That's really all I have to say about that. The guy on the right was awesome. He actually started break dancing in the street. Don't believe me? Check out the video of it here.

We found these guys in a bush. They were just sitting there in a bush. They said it had something to do with the anniversary of falling into a different bush and the dude in the bush seemed really, really happy to be there. (Perhaps he lives in a metaphorical world?) I couldn't be completely sure but it was probably some sort of alcohol in those red cups. I'm just wagering a guess.

Needless to say we had a blast. If you want to check out the full gallery of photos from my trip to the DMB Tailgating madness click here.

Keep checking back because I plan on hitting up even more fun places in the coming months and you never know when you'll be 'Seen on the Scene'...or in this case slightly made fun of by a disembodied head! Hopefully we'll never have to be apart for this long ever again. (Was that a sappy enough apology for neglecting my blogging duties?)

In all seriousness though it's been too long. So this post is really just a quick reintroduction and a also a quick reminder. The reintroduction part is obvious. The reminder part is to make sure you tune in to The CT on WTXX on Friday night, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. because we are (finally) revealing our brand spanking new MCs on The CT. Are you ready? Do you think you can handle it?!? (Sorry I sometimes fall into 'TV speak'...idiotic isn't it?)

Coming up soon we'll have updates on some seriously awesome events that we'll be appearing at and we'll be releasing the info on when and where our MCs will be appearing as well. As always thanks for reading. For those who don't know, it's your chance at being the host of the coolest station in Connecticut. You get to be the tour guide on our Seen on the Scene promos as well as some other cool stuff we have coming up in the future (more on that later...). What I haven't told you about yet was how amazingly awesome everyone is who has come down to try out so far. We've held two events since we started our search - a couple weeks back at The Shadow Room in Middletown and last Thursday night at Black Bear Hartford. I always knew there were talented people in CT waiting to be unearthed if you will, waiting for the moment to be given their chance to be a star. What I didn't realize was just how many of you there were! This is going to be a wicked hard decision for our staffers to narrow down the finalists and I think you'll all agree that when it comes time to vote for the winners on our site that you'll have an equally hard time as well. But let's be honest, that's a great thing. It's like the baseball team that has so many good pitchers they don't know who to put on the mound first! Now we just need make sure none of them get tendinitis. For those of you who haven't tried out yet, what are you waiting for? This is a golden opportunity and you'd be silly to miss out. In the next couple days we will be announcing the dates and locales for the final preliminary rounds. Get on this train before it leaves the station. If you aren't one of the 300+ people who've registered yet get over to www.ct.com and do it!

You know the old saying that March either comes in like a lion or a lamb and goes out vice versa. Well when I look at our events calendar this month it's a beast regardless of how many teeth it has. Last week we hit up Thomas Hooker Brewery in Bloomfield for an awesome open house event. The people at Hooker Brewery are wicked friendly and really do a great job creating a warm atmosphere and cool place to spend a Friday night. Check out the photos of the event HERE. Videos will be up on the site and on air later this week.

This coming weekend we will be out at both the Hartford & New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parades. If you are at the parade on Saturday in Hartford be sure to check out the official unveiling of "The Green Machine" - our 24ft. The CT RV!! Trust me, you'll know it when you see it. It's ugliest, yet coolest thing on 4-wheels. Good people of New Haven, fear not. The Green Machine will be hitting your neck of the woods as well!

Finally later this month is one of my favorite events of the year. Munch Madness! Don't know what this is? Munch Madness is an eating relay contest hosted at all five Wood N Tap locations (with a finals event at the beginning of April at the Hartford location). NOTE: This is not one of those see how much food you can eat and make the rest of us vomit looking at you contests. It is a relay where teams of 2-4 people try to eat a few of those little bar bite burgers as quickly as possible. Alright, yeah sometimes a contestant hurls, but it's a rarity I swear! Want more info or think you can take on the challenge? Go HERE.

That's all for now kids. I'll be back soon with more info on upcoming events. Oh and make sure you become a follower of this blog and check back regularly. In the not-to-distant future I'll be holding exclusive contests/trivia here. (Yes, that was a bribe. I have no shame, for God's sake look at how many pictures I wind up in...)

Thanks for reading!

Love,
Chet

Famous Friday

It's been a long time since so many famous people where all in Hartford and not all on the same speaking tour. But so it is this Friday when The D-O-double-G himself hits the Webster Theater and former Insomniac host Dave Attell makes a stop at the Funny Bone Comedy Club.

First off, I really hope Snoop shows up. Let's be honest here. Most rap stars do not have the best reputations when it comes to making all the stops on their tours, especially in smaller markets where the show may or may not be sold out. Let's not forget it wasn't long ago that The Wu Tang Clan was something like three hours late to a show at Toad's Place and then later in the year blew off a show at the Webster. If I had fingers I'd keep them crossed for the folks who bought tickets for that show.

As for Dave Attell I loved him on Insomniac...which is probably the last thing he wants to hear from anyone being that show went off the air over 5 years ago (5 years?!?). So a word to the wise, if you get the chance to meet the man please don't even mention Insomniac, o.k. It's probably for the best. We are hearing good things though about his current stand-up routine and the two night stop (Friday & Saturday) give you two shots at seeing it.

But, for my money Friday night is all about Cafe Nine in New Haven. Living Blues legend T-Model Ford will be rocking the house with local Blues staple Rocky Lawrence. For the cheap(er) price tag, the history and the music if Chet had a choice this is where we would be hanging out. Plus at this show you have a better chance of a) not getting a contact high or b) not getting picked on simply because you sat too close to the stage.

Finally, I saw a report today that some Whitney Houston fans are pissed because at a recent concert she couldn't hit half the notes. Well, what can I say kids. Let this be a lesson to you that crack is whack.

Until next time friends,
Chet

The MC on The CT

So I'm sure anyone who has watched The CT (or read the Hartford Advocate) over the last couple weeks has seen promos/ads for The MC on The CT. So what is it exactly? Well, you've already bared witness to our Seen On The Scene promos (oh...you haven't...then you obviously haven't been watching. You're fired.) well now picture The CT showing up at events, or just general cool places and now you've got a host or two walking you through what you are missing. But see, it's not just going to be rolling up to bars or block parties. Although there will be bars and block parties... But, we've got all sorts of crazy places planned for our hosts to take you, the viewer, on tours. Where, you may ask? I'll give you a hint...ever wonder how hot dogs are made?

Last weekend we held our first preliminary tryout round at The Shadow Room in Middletown during a party called Shag Frenzy (more on those cats later). We had some truly exceptional people come down and give us their best screen test. We're greedy though and we want more. So next Thursday, March 4th we are hosting our second preliminary tryout at Black Bear Saloon in Hartford from 6-9 pm. Can't make it next Thursday? It's all good. Throughout March we will have at least three more of these prelim rounds and then The CT staff will narrow it down to a handful of finalists. Those finalists will then have their "screen test" posted on our website where YOU will get to vote for The MC on The CT (see the only true democracy left in the world is the interweb folks...we're just doing our part). So you got that? Good.

So just some quick entertainment thoughts before I go:

*So Lindsay Vonn and Julia Mancuso aren't BFFs anymore. (Wah!!! There's someone else on my ski team who's pretty too!! Wah!!!) Does anyone really care?
*Dakota Fanning showed up dressed a little grungy. She's 16. What do you expect? Does anyone really care?
*The Octomom showed up on The View and Barbara Walters was "baffled" by her erratic behavior. She's known as THE OCTOMOM! For Christmas' sake it sounds like a comic book villian! What did you expect?!? And, yes...does anyone really care?

There. You just got your TMZ fix. Now, stop caring about this whatnot and go watch something educational...or...you know...Gossip Girl...

Next time: Why this coming Friday night might be the best Friday of the year (at least so far...)

Love
Chet

Freezin' For A Reason

Sorry, short post tonight. I'm still tyring to wrap my head around LOST. Yeah, yeah, I know, different network...so shoot me. Besides, let's be honest, if LOST were on the CW network they'd just crap it up by adding either pretty vampires or Shannon Doherty. (I kid, I kid! I love those blood suckers on 90210.)

Seriously though I wanted to let you all know about a truly awesome event The CT attended this past Saturday at Crystal Lake in Middletown, CT. Every year the CT chapter of The Special Olympics hosts a series of Penguin Plunges all over the state to help raise money and awareness. Now, if you've never been to one of these, you need to check it out. It's bassically an hour or so of pure masochism as people of all ages throw themselves into a frozen lake and most of them are in some sort of costume. Now I ask you, is there anything better than people making asses of themselves for a good cause? The answer is no. So please visit our friends at www.soct.org for more details on the great work that they do, as well as a lsting of upcoming plunges. They've been doing the plunge in Middletown for 10 years now! That's a lot of numb body parts! To see photos of this past weekend's plunge you can click here for the full gallery. Plus keep your eyes peeled for possibly the best Seen On The Scene promo we have run thus far. (I'll give you a hint: Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture is involved...)

Coming soon - more info on our next round of tryouts for The MC on The CT. Plus why Chet thinks Angelina Jolie isn't allowed to have a 'mom' haircut...

Love,
Chet

Aloha Means Hello and Goodbye

And so it is, 'Hello' to The CT and a hearty 'goodbye' to the old WTXX as you knew it. I could sit here for hours and bore the living crap out of you all with marketing speak and reasons why the new version of this TV station will be miles above and beyond the old version but I'm a 'seeing is believing' type of guy so you will all have to take my word: see it and believe it.

The changes to the station will be gradual, eventually drastic, but we've already done some pretty cool stuff. My favorite so far, hands down, is our "Seen On The Scene" segments we do. So, for those who haven't seen them yet, they are basically promotional spots that air all throughout the day highlighting cool places/events we go to. There have been some cool ones so far too - The Mohegan Sun Winefest, Liquid Lounge @ The CT Science Center, and a damn pool party in the middle of the coldest week of the Winter just to name a few. If you get a chance check out the Photos and Videos of some of the events we've had the privilege of covering so far. (There is one photo gallery in particular that I'm fond of, but I'll let you take a guess at which one it is...) Also a hearty thanks to all the venues and sponsors that have hosted us thus far. You guys have been awesome and we appreciate the support. For those venues and sponsors who haven't hosted us yet...what the hell are you waiting for?

Seriously though, if you live in Connecticut it's because of one of two reasons: 1) You love it here or 2) you grew up here and are too scared to leave. I'd like to think that you are all part of the first group and that's who this blog is for. (For the second group, my advice would be to go travel the world now before you get cold feet again. Then when you come back, realize how awesome CT actually is and join the first group of people. We'll wait here for you. Go on, shoo.) So for those of us who love CT keep your eyes on this blog because I'll have all the info you need on the events coming up worth attending, reasons why you should have attended the last event we were at and enough entertainment info to make you avoid having to watch TMZ ever, ever again. (You're welcome!)

So, my party people, are you ready to Get Around with Chet?
